Effect of room storage on polymerziation of chemically activated composite resin

Abstract
The effect of room storage on polymerization of chemically activated composite resin was studied. HI-POL(Boo-pyung Dental Chemicals Co., Korea. ) was used in this study. The components of composite resins in sealed coi tainers and opened containers were stored in the room, and then surface hardness values of mixed resins after 21 hours from mixing, which indicate the extent of polymerization, were taken by a digital microhardness tester (DYIH-2, Matsuzawa Seiki Co., Ltd., Japan. ) under a 333 gm load and 2,3 seconds.
The following results were obtained.
1. Vickers hardness value of HI-POL was 58.7.
2. The extents of polymerization of sealed composite resin and opened composite resin were nearly constant till 4 weeks, but at 8 weeks they decreased significantly, and remained relatively constant thereafter.
3. There were no large difference in the extent of polymerization between sealed composite resin and opened composite resin.
